February Blog Post

The Alpha Kappa Chapter at the University of Delaware is back on campus and ready for the spring semester! We have a lot of events to plan in the coming months, while also recruiting new members for the Alpha Pi Class. Easy to say this spring will be very busy!

We completed our recruitment events and conducted interviews, welcoming 20 Membership Candidates (MCs) to our chapter! This is the largest class we have had initiated in a long time! For the next 6 weeks, MCs will undergo the Membership Candidate Education Program (MCEP). MCs will learn about the history of Sigma Alpha, memorize the objective, prayer, and song, and plan pillar events in committees. This group of young women are bright, dedicated, and passionate about agriculture. The future of the Alpha Kappa Chapter is bright!

As for future events, we are currently planning for Founder’s Day, on Saturday, March 18th from 11AM to 2PM in the Townsend Commons. We encourage all Sigma Alpha alumni to attend – whether you are an alumnus of the University of Delaware or not! Lunch will be provided, and we will be holding an alumni panel, with speakers that will share how they have benefitted from Sigma Alpha to provide advice to current members. This is a great opportunity to give back to your local chapter and meet and mingle with women in agriculture. Join us at this event and reminisce on your wonderful years spent in Sigma Alpha!

Another large event that is tradition to attend is the University of Delaware’s Ag Day, on Saturday, April 29th from 10AM to 3PM behind Townsend Hall. This annual event is fun for families and allows the public to connect with agriculture. Sigma Alpha will be working a smoothie and veggie wrap booth, and all the proceeds will go directly to benefit the chapter. Sigma Alpha will also be offering a basket raffle, raffling off various basket items donated by local businesses. If you would like to donate any baskets or items, please contact us in advance! We hope to see you at Ag Day to help support the chapter!

There is a lot to look forward to this spring and our members continue to exceed expectations and make a difference in their community. We hope to see you soon either at Founder’s Day or Ag Day and thank you for your support of our chapter – we could not be here with you!
