On Saturday, November 4, 2017, the sisters of the Sigma Alpha Alpha Kappa chapter at the University of Delaware held their first “Goat Yoga” fundraiser. The event was held at a fellow sister, Amanda Ritter's, family farm in Harbeson, Delaware. Ritter Family Farms Inc. is a fifth generation family farm and has recently started raising dairy goats. Coincidentally, the person who has had major influences on the Ritter’s dairy goat farm happens to be one of the founding sister of the Alpha Kappa chapter, Heather Valentine. Goat Yoga was a fundraiser for their chapter’s UDance team, which raises money for The B+ Foundation. UDance is the largest student-run philanthropy at the University of Delaware, and The B+ Foundation donates money to families of children struggling with cancer, along with funding pediatric cancer research.

Sisters, family, friends, and locals from the area came out to spend the day with goats, practice some yoga, and help end the fight against childhood cancer. Sigma Alpha hosted three sessions, each with 25 people. The participants enjoyed an hour long PiYo workout, instructed by Erin Windsor, while feeding and interacting with the friendly goats. The Alpha Kappa chapter raised over $600 from this event, and all of the proceeds were donated to the chapter’s UDance team. Not only did the chapter impact multiple families affected by childhood cancer, but they also got to work together to put on one of their biggest events yet!
