SA/AGR Leadership Conference

When doing through interviews, one of the most asked questions is, “What do you think makes a good leader?”. It is always a hard question to answer, because what really does make a good leader? So that’s why I went to a conference all about what makes a leader great. Sigma Alpha and Alpha Gamma Rho hosted the Total Leadership Challenge in Washington, D.C. and I attended so I could finally answer the question. This weekend entailed many workshops, speakers, and tons of group activity all to help make good leaders. There were people from all over, I met some of my fellow sisters from Maine, and others from Alabama. All of us joined together in this fun filled weekend to learn more about our sorority and what makes us great.

As first vice president, I am involved in a lot of programming and alumni relationships and this conference had workshops directed just to those things. I learned how to not over program, and how to speak with alumni and encourage them to be more involved. I also learned how to handle conflict within the sorority, and how everything we do, can be focused on bettering our chapter. I worked with students from other chapters to get idea on how to fundraise, and how to better the fellowship amongst members. I even learned about how our chapter could budget better from the ideas from others.

This conference was the perfect opportunity to make myself a better leader just in time for my first semester as an executive member! Learning how to work with others I have never met before, and make plans is a great skill to have and one of the best things I learned at this conference.
